Cantrell Arenas have been a big part of our upgrades to the farm over the years.

The first job undertaken for us was on our original 60x30m sand and rubber arena in around 2014 where the sand had become very hard on the base over the years and there was a drainage issue at one end. 
Darren did a fantastic job resurrecting the surface and repairing the drainage issue before we decided to upgrade the size of the arena, fencing and surface a few years later. In 2017 this upgrade gave us a NEW 70x35m sand and fibre arena.

In 2021 we decided to upgrade again, this time extending the outdoor arena to ~ 70x75m keeping the existing surface and topping up with A LOT more Premium sand and fibre surface to complete the job. The finish of the kick boards, landscaping and drainage are to a fantastically high standard and we are delighted with the results of the upgrade.

During the period of working with Darren he also provided us with more sand and fibre surface which was originally used in our indoor arena but has now been relocated to our lunge arena. 
Darren also completed the groundwork for our horse walker upgrade including sourcing and laying of the concrete and all clay removal from site as well as providing more sand and fibre to go in the grids for the final surface on the 20m track.

Now 10 days old ‘Bruno’ has settled right in and is now waiting on his siblings to arrive.

‘Bruno’ who will be named ‘Jewel Bandit LH’ is by Colorit Z out of Comthago’s Jewel - the dam line which stems back to our 1m65 mare Haya Loma N.

Tangeloma

A good day at Weston Lawns for their Young Horse Show on Friday. It was a show we aimed our 4yos and less experienced 5yos at as the big arena is great to give them experience for later on in the year. 

With Michael picking up an injury earlier in the week Zoe had to take on the ride of three of the horses for the first time. Four and five year olds aren’t Zoe’s normal choice of ride but due to Michael’s fantastic training the transition was no problem. 

We were very pleased with their performances with clears and equal 1st placings achieved by all of the 4yos - Tangeloma, Doris V Z & Pour Vous La Best and our 5yo Ofira Q.

Show Report: Weston Lawns

We had an enjoyable trip to Sentower Park last week with 5 of our up and coming young horses. Having spent the last 6 months back in the UK producing the horses over the winter months it was nice to get a gauge on their progress.

5yo Thor van de Vlasbloemhoeve impressed with placings each day, clear on the first 2 days picking up a 5th and 3rd place respectively. And just showed a little inexperience changing rings for the final day, but finished the course well to pick up eventual 10th place.
6yos Nevis Field & Loma de Reve LH posted very solid rounds in the large Ashford Arena each day including a 7th place on day 1. An unfortunate fence down around a tough Grand Prix course kept them both out of the jump off but we are excited for the rest of the year with them.
And finally 7yos Malibu RAG & Mowgli C really stepped up jumping 2/3 clears in their 1m30-1m35 classes also picking up 2 placings over the weekend. An unlucky fault at the end of their testing 7yo final also kept them both out of the jump off this time but we feel a lot of experience was gained for them.

Great to have been joined by our friend Carolyn Curcio from Chiron Stables this week too, with her two horses gaining valuable experience for the rest of the year as well.

Show Report: Sentower Park - CSI

We are delighted with all of the work that B&M have undertaken for us. 

From a small roof replacement on our outdoor stables consisting of replacing the old tin roof with new insulated roof sheets with roof lights to the whole groundwork project for the lunge arena. 

For the lunge arena there was a large amount of clay to be removed from the site before concrete foundations were laid, as well as adding drainage around the area and linking into the existing horse walker drainage which was also part of a previous job. 

After the building was erected by Molenkoning UK all of the sand moving and levelling was also completed including the path leading up to the arena and all of the final landscaping.

Other jobs include concrete screeds and a concrete ramp leading into the outdoor stables.

We look forward to continuing to work with B&M on our future projects and upgrades to the farm.
